To use the Hometown Box Office or Gate App, you need three things:
Client ID: The Hometown distinguisher for your organization
Username: Created within the Box Office
Password: Created within the Box Office
You can use the same login you use for the Box Office.
Your admin may have also created a separate "App Only" account for you or your volunteers. App Only accounts can scan tickets but cannot sell or manage events.
Multiple people can use the same login at the same time. Many schools create one shared username and password for all gate volunteers.
How To Find Your Client ID
Your Client ID is the first part of your Box Office URL, before .hometownticketing.com. For example, if the URL is stars.hometownticketing.com/admin, the Client ID is stars.
Two ways to find it:
From the Box Office URL: If you or anyone at your school has logged in before, look at the address bar. The first part of the URL is your Client ID.
From your organization's public event page: Go to events.hometownticketing.com and find your school or organization. Your Client ID appears in the URL after /boxoffice/.
If nobody at your school knows the Client ID: This happens after staff turnover. Chat or email us with your school name and location, and we can look it up for you.
Selling Tickets
User accounts require a Box Office security level or higher in order to sell tickets on the app. Please contact your Client Success Manager if you have any questions regarding user accounts accessing the platform.
Scanning Tickets
To scan tickets using the Hometown Gate App, a user must have a username and password provided to them by the event organizer. The most typical security level for this user is App Only.
Events appear in the Gate App 12 hours before the Event Start Time by default. If you don't see your event, check that the Event Start Time is correct in the Box Office, or ask your admin to add a "Doors Open Time" to the ticket level.
Add A New User
To access the Gate App to scan, sell tickets, or manage the event, you will need an account with login credentials. You may opt to create a generic login for all volunteers or creating individual accounts. Learn more by accessing our Add A New User guide.
Pro Tips:
An individual user account is not needed for every staff member/volunteer - a generic username and password can be used across multiple users on the same night when logging in to the Gate App.
Download and print the Volunteer Check-In Resource to provide instructions and training to all volunteers.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Solution |
I don't know my Client ID | See "How to find your Client ID" above. If that doesn't work, chat or email us with your school name. |
My password isn't working | Ask a School Admin at your school to reset your password under Settings > User Accounts. If nobody has School Admin access, contact support. |
It says "email" on the login screen but I have a username | Some browsers auto-label the field. Enter your username even if the field says "email." |
I see the fan ticket page instead of admin login | Add /admin to the end of your URL. |
I need a new account | Only School Admin or District Official can create accounts. Ask your admin, or contact your Client Success Manager. |
"You do not have permission" | Your account's security level limits what you can do. App Only = scan only. Department Manager = manage events in your department but not create users. Ask a School Admin to check your permission level. |
My event isn't showing in the Gate App | Events appear 12 hours before start time. Check that the Event Start Time is correct (common mistake: AM vs. PM). Also check that your account has access to the right department. See Why isn't my ticket or pass scanning correctly? |
I can see some events but not others | Your account may only have access to one department (e.g., Athletics). Ask a School Admin to add the missing department to your account under Settings > User Accounts. |
FAQs
Can I use the same login for the Box Office and the Gate App?
Yes. Any Box Office login works in the Gate App too.
I'm a volunteer for tonight's game. How do I get a login?
Ask the Athletic Director or event organizer at your school. They can create an account for you in Settings > User Accounts, or give you the shared volunteer login credentials.
We're hosting a playoff game and our state association manages the tickets. How do I get a login?
For playoff events managed by your state athletic association (e.g., MSHSAA, OSAA, UIL, OHSAA, PIAA), the association controls the Hometown account credentials. Contact your conference or association office directly for the Client ID, username, and password. Hometown cannot provide these.
Our school has had staff turnover and nobody knows the login.
Chat or email us with your school name and location. We can look up your Client ID and help you get new credentials set up.
A coworker gave me their password but it isn't working.
If the account has two-factor authentication enabled, the login code is sent to the original account holder's email. Instead of sharing passwords, ask a School Admin to create a separate account for you under Settings > User Accounts. See Adding a New User.
